As a born and bred Gold Coast local I am probably more qualified than most to give you a run down of the best Gold Coast Surf Shops. Did I mention I won my high school surfing competition? Which was sponsored! Much to my partner’s dismay who is legitimately an awesome surfer from Yamba, all I had to do was stand up. They were the good old days on the GC haha. So back to the list.

Stuarts Surf
2576 Gold Coast Hwy, Mermaid Beach 4218
An institution, Stuarts on the Gold Coast Hwy at Mermaid has been around since the mid 80’s. And they are literally in the building next to our warehouse! It’s a small blink and you’ll miss it store but full of all the local knowledge you would expect. Specialising in grovel boards, all rounders and guns he is the go to shaper for many locals looking for custom boards. The store also stocks a range of second hand boards and some accessories.
Surf FX Southport
127 Ferry Rd, Southport 4215
Unlike most of the surf stores on the coast this gem is 10km inland in Southport and is another good spot for the paddle boarders out there. Surf FX is has a great range of kite surfing and wind surfing gear. They offer lessons and rentals for for all the surfing disciplines. This is not a fashionable boutique surf shop but they’ve been around for well over 15 years with lots of happy customers so they must be doing a lot right!
The Boardroom
2084 Gold Coast Hwy Miami 4220
Featuring probably the largest range of second hand boards on the Gold Coast. They will offer you a trade price on your old boards and they will let you ride the boards and bring it back for a swap if you don’t like it. New boards coming in all the time and word is that not only can you haggle yourself a bit of a discount but they give your free wax with your board purchase!
Sideways Outlet
Central Park Plaza, 1-2/16 Central Park Ave Ashmore 4214
If you’re looking for a cheap all-round option then you probably want to hit up sideways. From skateboards to clothing this store has a large range and a little bit of everything. They not only stock not only their own private label but buy in stock from many of the major brands like Balin and Far King. Mostly frequented by the newbie surfer looking for a cost effective way to get started in surfing.
The Surfboard Warehouse
20 Christine Ave, Miami 4220
If you’re partial to a bit of stand up paddle board surfing then this is probably the place for you. With regular markdown sales you are sure to pick up a SUP and related accessories for a good price.
The Gold Coast is largely regarded as Australia’s surf capital and there are a plethora of surf stores dotted all up and down the coast line so if you can’t find what you need for your next surf adventure in this city then you probably won’t find it anywhere.
